Metagame update

How’s Burn positioned in the current metagame?

Right after Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth got released, the metagame evolved in a weird way which left Burn as one of the biggest winners of the shift. The printing of Orcish Bowmasters made Hammer and Murktide much worse choices compared to the times before LotR, and on the other hand, matchups that were traditionally good for Burn like Tron, Scam and Yawgmoth got upgrades so they became much more popular. Burn was a super solid choice back then as a linear way to punish slower decks that were too focused on accruing value.

The first week after the Preordain got unbanned is looking not the best for Burn though. Jund Saga turned out to be a good counter for RB Scam and for us, facing Urza’...
