How Yawgmoth should adapt to the current format?
Yawgmoth is Modern’s premier creature-based combo deck. Despite gaining nothing from the Lost Caverns of Ixalan, the timely ban of Fury and Up the Beanstalk has elevated Yawgmoth to Modern’s top tier. Fury was one of the best cards against creature-based strategies like Yawgmoth. In the early game, an Evoked Fury allowed decks like Rhinos, Scam, and Four Color to interact with Yawgmoth’s early creatures for free. When combined with an Undying spell out of Scam, Fury was often a one mana Plague Wind that left behind a 4/4 double striker. With Fury gone from Modern, Yawgmoth’s matchup against red-based decks has improved dramatically. However, the ban ended up being a double-edged sword...
