Introduction

Hello everybody, and welcome to my long-overdue Murktide update!

Keen readers with good memory for completely negligible details will remember that this very same sentence headlined my last dive on mammals and dragons back in late March. This time I wouldn’t say that Magic was less of a priority for me since the last update, quite the opposite - I’ve been playing and thinking about the game for weeks straight at times, it’s just that Murktide was rarely a centrepiece of those endeavours. Back in April, May and early June I’ve been mostly, similarly to a large portion of Modern community, looking forward in a somewhat nervous anticipation towards the Lord of the Rings release, thusly reluctant to experiment too much in the soon to be outdated format. On top of that, Pioneer was at the forefront of organised play at that point, with both RCQs abound and the third round of RCs spread throughout June.
