Introduction
What is Yawgmoth?
Yawgmoth is Modern’s premier creature-based combo deck. This deck gets its name from Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, a powerful creature that draws cards, kills opposing creatures, and is the integral part of a game-ending combo. The deck can seamlessly switch between a grindy midrange plan and a quick combo finish. Recently, the return of Green Sun’s Zenith gave the deck a much needed upgrade to compete with the current iteration of Modern. Personally, I have found Yawgmoth to be one of the most rewarding decks to play in the format. Each game has multiple relevant decisions and most games feel winnable if you can navigate towards the best lines. I will almost certainly be playing Yawgmoth at my own RC. This primer is designed to cover the basics of the deck as well as how to combat new trends in the metagame.
